A bit of background on Chantel’e Marie

I remember the first time that I walked into the media room at my sixth form open evening, the feeling of excitement overwhelmed me and I knew that this was the path that I wanted to pursue. The great thing about my studies is that it allowed me to get a taster of all things media related; from animation, graphic design, film and TV – the course touched on a plethora of exciting career choices. However, there were two mediums that overwhelmed me the most; journalism and radio.
After my gap year, I began a degree in these two specialisms at uni. During this three year degree, my best friend, Tanwa Balogun and I, decided to launch our own magazine. It was our passion for writing and communication that let us to undertake this ambitious project. Our magazine was distributed to students and university professionals with an estimated readership of over 1500 people. The magazine successfully ran for over two years with an issue published each semester. Tanwa and I also joined our university radio station, Luton FM. Here, we produced a show that was a platform for emerging UK talent and through it we interviewed many rising stars. In 2007 we were presented with an award for hosting the ‘Best Evening Radio Show of the Year.’
After graduating I began freelancing for many publications including the UK’s number one Black newspaper – The Voice newspaper and its sister magazine Young Voices. And in 2010 I was appointed the role of Editorial Co-ordinator for Pulse magazine. Pulse Magazine was an online and print lifestyle publication aimed at ethnic males within the UK. I went from journalism into content marketing, working for a large London agency specilising in SEO, PR, social, digital marketing and of course content!
In relation to broadcasting, I have enjoyed co-hosting with a number of other DJs and presenters. Radio gives me a real buzz and hosting live makes it even more enjoyable.

➢ Disgusting truth of dancehall porn blog post. This post discussed the sub-culture of slack behaviour that has etched into and is too heavily associated with dancehall music.
➢ Pay up or shut up blog post. This popular blog post sees me ranting about the freeness within the media and creative industry. Within it, I discuss how expecting everything for free doesn’t lead to economic mobility and that there comes a time when one’s creative talents need to be monetarily valued.
Not only does Words & Riddims blog on topics related to authentic & contemporary reggae dancehall music, the website also covers broader subjects including lifestyle, life and leisure.
